CBD and Our Immune System
CBD has immune modulatory properties, but what does that mean?
CBD can help stimulate our immune system when it's down, but it can also bring it down when it’s up!
This is great, I mean who wants to have an under or over functioning immune system?
CBD can help bring our immune system up by activating our immune cells, causing cell death (for the bad guys), and it can increase our regulatory cells (good guys on patrol), thus improving our immune system (1).
A properly functioning immune system is vital for our long-term health and survival. Another plus of adding CBD into your daily routine.
So, now we know CBD can help stimulate our immune system to better protect us… BUT what else can CBD do for our immune system?
CBD can also lower our immune system… But how in the heck is that good for you?
When we have autoimmune conditions or even allergies, our immune systems can be overstimulated, and this can have a negative impact on our overall health and wellbeing (2).
Both autoimmune problems and allergies can result in an overstimulation of our immune system, which is followed by an inflammatory process, and more problems down the line (1).
The inflammatory process that is brought on by autoimmune issues also adds more problems into the mix and being that CBD also has anti-inflammatory properties, CBD was also shown to have another positive impact on our wellbeing (1).
It’s like hitting multiple birds with one stone.
When we have autoimmune issues, our immune system is in an over-over-stimulated state and can even start attacking itself (2).
Some common autoimmune conditions seen today society include reactive arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, Grave’s Disease, Addison’s disease, Celiac Disease (gluten sensitivity), Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, Multiple Sclerosis, Myasthenia gravis, lupus, and type I diabetes (2).
CBD was shown to prevent the immune system from going “out of whack” in any one direction too far due to CBD’s ability to maintain homeostasis, which helps to bring back a balanced state, for our immune system (1). This keeps our immune system at a balanced of neutral statue (homeostasis) so it can perform the way it should.
Stimulating immune systems and improving our health and wellness. CBD for the win again!
