CBD as a Promising Anticancer

According to Cancers, a peer reviewed medical journal, CBD has shown to be effective against various types of cancers and the results are astonishing (Seltzer, Watters, MacKenzie, Granat, Zhang, 2020).

A brain cancer called glioma, including stage 4 glioma called glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) has a survival rate of 4-5% past 5 years from diagnosis, indicating it is a very serious and terminal illness (Seltzer, Watters, MacKenzie, Granat, Zhang, 2020).

CBD was shown to be glioma cancers (brain cancer) worst enemy by causing cell death, stopping cancer cell migration and invasion (how it spreads), was shown to decrease the tumor size, decrease the vasculature of the cells, decrease the growth and overall weight of the tumor, which caused the tumors to shrink (tumor regression), and increase survival rates (Seltzer, Watters, MacKenzie, Granat, Zhang, 2020).

CBD was also shown to be very effective against breast cancer cells, stating that CBD was shown to cause breast cancer cell death and assists the body to remove old and dying sick cells (autophagy) (Seltzer, Watters, MacKenzie, Granat, Zhang, 2020).

CBD was also shown to prevent breast cancer cells from migrating, invading other healthy cells, and preventing the cancer cells from spreading (Seltzer, Watters, MacKenzie, Granat, Zhang, 2020). The study stated they are working on creating a CBD plan as an alternative treatment for breast cancer after coming across the beneficial properties of CBD.

CBD was also shown to be effective against lung cancer by attacking the lung cancer cell lines, was shown to prevent cells from invading other cells, causing apoptosis (cell death), reduce the tumor size and lung metastatic nodules (Seltzer, Watters, MacKenzie, Granat, Zhang, 2020).

CBD was also shown to be effective against colorectal cancer (colon), stating that CBD reduces tumor cell progression, causes apoptosis (cell death), and causes cell cycle death, which interrupts the cancers cells ability to survive (Seltzer, Watters, MacKenzie, Granat, Zhang, 2020).

CBD was also shown to be effective against leukemia/lymphoma cancer, stating that CBD attacks the cancer cells lines, reduced the spread of the cancer cells (antiproliferative), and reduced the oxidative stress of the cells due to CBD’s antioxidant properties (Seltzer, Watters, MacKenzie, Granat, Zhang, 2020).

CBD was also shown to be effective against prostate cancer, stating that CBD reduced the prostate cancer cells from spreading (antiproliferative) and caused cell death (apoptosis) (Seltzer, Watters, MacKenzie, Granat, Zhang, 2020). CBD was also “…shown to down regulate prostate specific antigen (PSA), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and pro-inflammatory cytokines, resulting in cell arrest (death) (Seltzer, Watters, MacKenzie, Granat, Zhang, 2020).

The study concluded that CBD was also shown to be effective treatment against a few other cancers including cervical cancer, liver cancer, thyroid cancer, gastric cancer, melanoma, and pancreatic cancer (Seltzer, Watters, MacKenzie, Granat, Zhang, 2020).
