CBD and its Impact on Women’s Hormones

CBD and its Impact on Women’s Hormones
🐝
Hormonal imbalances can happen in men and women, although it is more predominant in women. This is because women go through many changes throughout their lifespan, which include puberty, menstruation, pregnancy and even menopause.
🌲
In today’s world finding something health promoting to address hormonal imbalances may be few and far between, but research shows that CBD is a great natural candidate for addressing hormonal imbalances and here is why.
♻️
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) regulates many key functions including pain, inflammation, stress, mood, sleep, memory, digestive health, metabolism, reproduction, and in this case, CBD also has a positive impact on hormone regulation (Zou, Kumar, 2018).
🐝
CBD can influence and bring balance to hormones like cortisol, estrogen, and even reduce the impact menopause has on the body in terms of bone density and osteoporosis (Benefits of CBD for women, n.d.).
🌲
Cortisol is a hormone that is released when you are stressed or upon activation of your sympathetic nervous system (fight of flight mode). When the sympathetic nervous system is activated over long periods of time high levels of cortisol are released and this creates chronic stress, which can negatively impact overall health by creating chronic inflammation and even surfacing as anxiety. CBD was shown to lower cortisol levels, which in turn helps reduce anxiety and stress thanks to CBD’s anxiolytic properties (Zou, Kumar, 2018).
♻️
CBD was also shown to impact the hormone estrogen. CBD was shown to interact with the cytochrome p450 system by increasing the rate at which estrogen is broken down within the body. This is particularly important because high levels of estrogen (imbalance) are linked to breast cancer diagnoses. I think this is very important because about 264,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the United States!
🐝
CBD also has a positive impact on women and menopause. As women enter menopause many changes happen within the body including increased rate of bone loss (osteoporosis), anxiety, depression, and mood swings (Benefits of CBD for women, n.d.). CBD was shown to increase the bone re-absorption rate and increase bone density, which women entering menopause or having osteoporosis can benefit from (Idris, 2010). CBD was also shown to reduce anxiety, improve mental health by addressing depression, and improving mood all through activation on the ECS (Zou, Kumar, 2018).
🌲
The best part about this is CBD’s negative side effects… or should I say, lack thereof… 🙂
