According to the National Institute of Health, cannabidiol (CBD) was a safe treatment for reducing anxiety and improving sleep patterns in a young female who suffered from PTSD because of the calming and relaxing effects CBD has to offer (Shannnon, Opila-Lehman, 2016). The study then goes on to explain exactly how/why this happens. CBD was shown to have calming and relaxing effects, shown to reduce insomnia because of the CB1 receptors, which are located in the brain where neurotransmitter release happens (Shannnon, Opila-Lehman, 2016). The study concluded because the anti-anxiety effects CBD has to offer, it is also great for cardiovascular health and distributes anti-inflammatory properties system wide (Shannnon, Opila-Lehman, 2016). The CB2 receptors are responsible for immune function where CBD also targets, which explains why CBD is great at controlling pain and inflammation (Shannnon, Opila-Lehman, 2016).
